Mother and son involved in double-murder suicide in Shamokin

SHAMOKIN, Pa. – A man shot and killed his mother and another man before killing himself in Shamokin, Northumberland County.

The incident happened Saturday just around 6 P.M.

Police say that 20-year-old, Richard Zimmerman Jr. of Shamokin shot and killed 42-year-old, Joananne Grodzki of Shamokin and 36-year-old, Richard Erb of Coal Township.

Zimmerman then turned the gun on himself.

The coroner pronounced all three dead at the scene, with gunshot wounds to their heads.

Authorities have confirmed that Zimmerman is Grodzki’s son.

A witness says they heard loud bangs coming from the building.

Someone also saw the gunman outside the home, and then he quickly went back inside.

Investigators believe he left the house after the shooting and then returned and shot himself.

Police are still trying to figure out what exactly led to the shooting.
