YORK, Pa. - When David McCoy's wife passed away, he moved from Baltimore to York. He has been playing the piano since he was nine years old and has been in many groups. Friends and family encouraged him to form a group here, so he started the York County Gospel Choir. The choir now has 25 members including McCoy's daughter, Cheryl Tyler.
"We are learning so much about each other, but most of all we are doing this together," she said.
The choir is all volunteer and their gigs are free. They sing to share their love of music and God.
"We’re not based in one church. We are from all churches. Whoever wants to sing and can sing," said McCoy.
They sing almost anywhere and give their cards to almost anyone. This year, they have been more popular than ever. They have been to Georgia, are going to North Carolina and next year, are going to Hawaii.
The choir is always looking for more members. The York County Gospel Choir holds auditions at 6:30 p.m. every Monday at the Church of the Open Door, 8 Carlisle Court, West Manchester Township. Newcomers are asked to arrive by 6:15 p.m.
