YORK, Pa. - A fourth grade student joined community members in a groundbreaking ceremony for a Buddy Bench at the Lincoln Charter School in York.
The Buddy Bench was the idea of Roundtown Elementary School student Christian Bucks, who helped get a similar bench installed at his school in 2013. Bucks says the bench gives students a place to go if they are feeling lonely or they want someone to play with or talk to.
"I saw other kids who were lonely ... I felt like they needed some friends to play with at recess," Bucks said.
The project was a joint effort between Bucks, State Representative Kevin Schreiber, the Lincoln Charter School Board, Core Design Group and Enactus Student Group at York College.
