It's important to give your lawn care year-round, not just during the summer.
Prepping your lawn for the colder months is a large part of maintaining a healthy lawn.
According to the Home Depot, there are a few steps you can take to prepare your lawn and garden for the winter months:

• Let your lawn breathe. You can rent an Aerator to create holes that will leave room for water and fertilizer. This will help your lawn look lush and healthy by spring.
• Add mulch around the base of trees and plants to help prevent them from freezing during the colder months. Be mindful not to add too much mulch, too early. Wait until the ground is freezing and only add mulch in areas where you may be thinking of growing or expanding your garden in spring.
• Try out the Mulch Calculator on homedepot.com/mulchcalculator to determine how much you need.
• Cut your grass a little shorter as you move into the colder months, so it is less exposed to disruption. Another tip is that leaves contain a lot of plant nutrients, so try to mow them into your lawn.
• If you are looking for a new mower, try the Echo 21 in. 58-Volt Lithium-Ion Walk-Behind Cordless Mower with 2-Batteries. It’s battery-powered and powerful.
• Trim your trees with loppers like the Fiskars 28 in. Power-Lever Bypass Lopper to stop branches from falling on your lawn or garden due to wind or heavy snow. When you cut, cut close to the trunk, but not flush with it.
