ATLANTA, GEORGIA – A toddler living with a rare metabolic disorder must eat almost constantly to stay healthy.

Owen Torti was born 9 weeks premature and when he was just a few days old he was diagnosed with LCHAD (Long-chain 3-hydroxy acyl-coenzyme A dehydrogenase).

The rare condition prevents his body from converting certain fats to energy, so the now 23-month-old toddler has to eat every hour.

If Owen does not eat regularly his body will start breaking down his muscles for energy.

In his short life Own has been hospitalized more than a dozen times, primarily due to metabolic crisis.  A metabolic crisis, if not treated, can cause breathing problems, seizures, coma, and sometimes even death.

His parents, Kayla and Tyler, are hoping their son can be part of an intensive feeding program through Baylor University in Dallas, TX.

If you would like to help, the Torti family has a crowd funded page for medical bills.
