LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. — A Lancaster man will serve at least 25 years in prison for trying to recruit a cellmate to kill three city police officers.

According to the Lancaster County District Attorney’s office, while in Lancaster County Prison , Akeem Washington, 31,  asked a cellmate to place an anonymous call to police, luring officers to Washington.

According to trial testimony, Washington  would then fire at the officers with automatic weapons.

On Friday, Lancaster County Judge David Ashworth ordered Washington serve 25 to 60 years in state prison.

A local jury convicted Washington in August of three felony counts of criminal solicitation to commit homicide. Assistant District Attorney Christopher Lechner prosecuted the case. Lechner told the judge Washington’s actions, no one else’s, resulted in the conviction.

No officers were harmed.

Considered in the sentence was a 2007 conviction for which Washington kidnapped and slashed the neck of an ex-girlfriend. He was sentenced 3 to 6 years in state prison.
