ALLENTOWN, PA — The Lehigh County Humane Society calls Sally a survivor.
Sally was found on the porch of an Allentown home, severely emaciated with a large gash on her head and a skull fracture. The resident called police, and the officer brought her to the Humane Society for treatment.
The young pit bull had multiple injuries, both new and healing, and Humane Society staff say she required dozens of stitches.
“The story I see was the first attempt to kill her by starvation didn’t work,” Humane Society manger Teisha Jones told the Morning Call. “Then they tried to kill her by hitting her with a sharp object, which, thank God, didn’t work either.
“She has gone through hell.”
Veterinarian Elena Sawickij told WFMZ that this was the worst case of animal abuse she’s ever seen and, “She may have been a bait dog.”
But even after all of her injuries, Sally is expected to make a full recovery.
Police say the dog was most likely hit with a hatchet or a small axe, and whoever is responsible could face animal cruelty charges.
