LANCASTER, Pa. - Local mothers and their children will soon have more access to nutritional and healthcare resources thanks to a new mobile clinic.  Representatives from the PA Department of Health  and the US Department of Agriculture Mid-Atlantic Region, local dignitaries and Lancaster-area providers at Community Action Program of Lancaster County gathered for the launching of WIC on Wheels.

The WIC program offers nutrition services, healthcare, and healthy foods to low-income families. The goal of the new mobile clinic is to increase the accessibility of those services in rural areas of the county.

"Going mobile with a program like WIC is one of the ways we can be innovative, test out new ways of reaching people in our goal to helping them be self-sufficient long-term," CAP COO Michael McKenna said.

Families also receive nutrition education and referrals to other health, welfare, and social services.
