MANCHESTER TWP., York County, Pa. -- At 10 p.m. on Sunday, Officer Lynn Anderson pulled over a man for a routine traffic stop. It ended with the officer and the driver exchanging gunfire. Authorities are still searching for the shooter, but they found his car this morning.
The shooter is 24-year-old Trev Bowies Jackson. Officer Lynn Johnson stopped Jackson at the parking lot of the Crossroads Shopping Center in Manchester Township for a suspected DUI. The officer said he smelled marijuana inside the car.
Jackson pulled out a gun and fired shots at Anderson and fled in his blue 1994 Buick Sedan.
Northern York County Regional Police Chief Mark Bentzel said, "Certainly anyone who would point a gun and fire it at a police officer is a person that can be and should be considered armed and dangerous.
Police are searching York County for Jackson. Monday morning they were searching Susquehanna Trail. They found Jackson's car on the 1800 block of North George Street.
"We recovered the vehicle, and we're actively searching for the suspect," Bentzel said.
Meanwhile, local elementary schools did not have an outside recess.
Jenny Smick, a parent of a fifth grader at Sinking Springs Elementary School, said, "I didn't find out until the morning. I sent my daughter to school, and then I actually got a phone call that they weren't allowing the kids to go out to recess today."
Many people concerned and hoping that Jackson won't get too much farther.
"It's upsetting, but I'm glad the officer wasn't hurt," Smick said. "And I just hope they catch him soon so the residents in the area don't have to be so worried.
