LANCASTER, Pa.–A Lancaster father was arrested Monday night after police said he beat his 11-day-old baby girl because she was crying.

Keith W. Dorsey, 23, is charged with aggravated assault of a child and endangering the welfare of a child. He was arraigned and taken to Lancaster County Prison in lieu of $350,000 bail.

Officers responded to Lancaster General Hospital around 9 p.m. Monday for a report of possible child abuse. The baby’s mother brought the baby  to the hospital after seeing the child’s injuries when she returned home. The baby had visible bruising to her torso and upper lip, police said.

Investigators learned the baby had been in Dorsey’s care when the injuries occurred. Police said Dorsey hit the infant after becoming upset when the baby wouldn’t stop crying.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 15.
