Paint nite for veterans

YORK, Pa. – Mr. Sandy’s Veterans Center in York opened earlier this year. The facility has already helped many veterans. They are not able to offer overnight accommodations due to not being up to code. A $200,000 sprinkler system was just installed and in about two weeks they expect to be able to host people overnight. On Wednesday at the Carlisle VFW a paint “nite” was held to raise funds for the center.  People lifted their glasses and brushes for the cause.

“It’s going to operating costs. So, of course there’s bills that come along with our center so, of course we need to make sure it stays open. The money is going toward operating costs,” said Sandie Walker, President of Veterans Helping Hands.

“We were shoveling out literally piles and piles of debris, this time last year and now, we are open and it’s just another way York-countians are supporting their beloved veterans,” said Commissioner Susan Byrnes.

The paint nite was hosted by “Paint Nite” and raised around $2,000.
