HARRISBURG, Pa. - Children in one Harrisburg city community now have a new place to play. Harrisburg Mayor Eric Papenfuse joined members of the Parks Foundation for a ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday to introduce a new swing set at a playground at Joyce, 15th, and Vernon Streets.

The swings cost $6,300, and replace an earlier set officials say was deteriorating.

The Parks Foundation has been raising money to help renovate parks and playgrounds in need of repair across the city.

"When we give people safe spaces to congregate, when we give them activities,  remember our playgrounds, especially over the summer, are some of the sites of our summer enrichment activities," Mayor Papenfuse said. "We are reducing crime, and we are increasing quality of life."

The foundation donated more than $6,000 to buy the swing set from money raised at the Mayor's Golf Outing event that was held back in August.
