LANCASTER CITY, Pa.--

Christmas is not too far away and the Salvation Army is doing it's part to get people ready for the day. Over Monday and Tuesday 1,100 less fortunate families will receive toys and a gift card for food for a holiday meal.

"It's very hard to provide for your kids that Christmas that will blow them away," a mother of three, Audrey Maclean, said.

Families get two toys per child. The toys come from a wholesale company that sells them at lower prices. Donations helped to purchase these toys for the Salvation Army. The families applied for the opportunity to receive the help in November.

"Something like this at least provides somebody the opportunity to give their kids a Christmas," Maclean said.

If you are a family that missed the chance for this you are asked to call the 211 United Way for help.

If you would like to donate to the Salvation Army, you can at their center, the red kettle, or online.
