York homicide suspect arrested in Florida

HARRISBURG, Pa. –United States Deputy Marshals arrest Cody Stifler, 23, formerly of York in Florida on a fugitive from justice warrant.

usmarshalsOn September 1, York City Police investigated the shooting death of a man inside a home in the 300 block of East Cottage Place. That investigation resulted in an arrest warrant charging Stifler with Criminal Homicide. Additionally, at the time of the murder Stifler was on parole after a 2013 federal conviction for Conspiracy to Straw Purchase a Firearm. On September 28, the U.S. District Court in Harrisburg revoked his supervised release and issued a federal warrant for his arrest.

In November, members of the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force learned that Stifler had fled to Daytona Beach, Florida. This morning, deputy marshals from the Orlando office of the USMS arrested Stifler without incident in the 1000 block of North Atlantic Avenue, Daytona Beach. He was arraigned at the federal courthouse in Orlando and is being detained pending extradition to Pennsylvania.

The United States Marshals Fugitive Task Force in the Middle District of Pennsylvania is comprised of 21 state, county and local police agencies; including York City Police Department, York County Sheriff’s Office, York County District Attorney’s Office, Pennsylvania State Police and Pennsylvania Board of Probation and Parole, all of whom participated in this investigation.
