HARRISBURG, Pa. – State Supreme Court Justice Michael Eakin is suspended with pay. The Court of Judicial Discipline ordered Judge Eakin suspended from his judicial and administrative duties until further notice effective today. His pay and medical benefits are not affected.
The suspension follows a hearing on Monday in Scranton by the Judicial Conduct Board. Judge Eakin either read or exchanged emails with lewd references with others. In his testimony, Judge Eakin admitted sending and receiving the offending emails.
The Board concluded that Judge Eakins actions tainted the Pennsylvania judiciary in the eyes of the public.
Judge Eakin is scheduled to appear at a pre-trial conference on January 11, 2016 prior to a full hearing that could lead to his removal from the bench.
