YORK, Pa. – York County has passed a budget– but it means a tax hike is on the way for residents. The York County Board od Commissioners approved a 2016 final budget on Wednesday. The newly approved budget includes a 14 percent property tax increase which comes out to about $84.06.

Officials say the state budget impasse is costing the county and caused sudden increases in expenses.

County Commissioner Doug Hoke says its been the most difficult budget he’s worked on in his eight years in office.

“The average assessed value in York County is 131,000,” Hoke said, “That’s about $84, I think, a year, which would be quite the  amount of dollars about 60 or 70 a week. I know it’s still an increase, it’s not a pleasant vote, but I think it’s the fiscally responsible thing to do.”

This is the first tax increase in the county since 2013.
