ADAMS COUNTY, Pa. – An Adams County man is behind bars with bail at $2 million bail on charges involving rape of a child less than 13 years old. Robert Benjamin Carbaugh, 54, of Gettysburg, was arrested on Sunday.
According to the criminal complaint, Carbaugh went to the victim’s home at about 3 am on December 27. He went upstairs to the child’s bedroom and sexually assaulted her. He then told the victim not to tell anyone or he would get into trouble.
The victim got away by telling Carbaugh she needed a drink of water. She went downstairs and told an adult female what happen. The woman called police. Carbaugh left the home before police arrived. He was eventually located on Carlisle Street in Gettysburg and taken into custody.
Charges against Carbaugh include Attempted Rape of a Child, Statutory Sexual Assault, Involuntary Deviate Sexual Intercourse, Aggravated Indecent Assault of a Child, Indecent Assault, Indecent Exposure, and Corruption of a Minor.
Following arraignment Carbaugh was sent to the Adams County Adult Correctional Complex. He faces a preliminary hearing in early January 2016.
