Marysville resident charged in fake fundraising scam

PENN TOWNSHIP, Pa.–A Marysville resident is accused of trying to swindle people out of money by hosting a bogus benefit for fire victims, according to state police reports.

Shelby Weigle, 43,  is charged with criminal attempt theft by deception.  Weigel allegedly advertised the fake benefit on Facebook, which was supposed to take place at the Penn Township municipal building on Dec. 5. The event was cancelled after several folks on Facebook questioned the events authenticity and contacted authorities.

State police said the fire occurred in another state.
