LANCASTER, PA- A mother in Lancaster was recently sentenced after she gave her son cocaine causing him to overdose and have a seizure.
Tanya Marie Madden will now serve the next 14 months on parole followed by 8 years probation in accordance to her plea agreement.
Madden, 25, pleaded guilty to felony aggravated assault and related misdemeanors in exchange for the sentence. She also must pay $33,348 in restitution for the boy’s medical bills.
Madden is prohibited from having contact with the child. The boy has recovered and is in his father’s care.
The boy was 7 months old when he was admitted to a local hospital in March for the overdose, which caused a seizure. The boy was eventually transferred to Hershey Medical Center. Doctors there determined the boy ingested cocaine, not accidentally, but rather was forced to ingest it.
Police searched Madden’s North Plum Street apartment and found plastic baggies with cocaine residue.
Officers determined Madden had sole custody of the child when he ingested the cocaine.
Lancaster city police Detective Gareth Lowe filed charges.
