YORK, Pa.--Community members are hoping to send a message to stop the violence in York as they marched their way to the scene of a shooting last weekend.

The group went there to show solidarity with the residents, according to John Beck, one of the rally organizers.

They're calling on people to help stop the violence amid a large spike in gun violence over the last six weeks.

There have been around 20 shootings in that period in the city.

"It breaks my heart for the youth that are losing their lives, that are laying up in the hospital in critical condition," Gerri Zimmerman, a community organizer who participated in the rally, said. "It seems like our kids don't have any hope anymore."

Community leaders have urged the public to come forward with any information in these cases, many of which are gang-related.

Residents also called on each other to provide young people with more to do after school every day.

"There's other things out here," Natalie Brown, who created the group Mothers In Charge after her son died from gun violence, said. "They could become somebody. It's not too late. It's not too late to get them off the streets. That's all I'm trying to do is get them off the streets and get these guns gone."
