PennDOT crews have been working around the clock preparing for the first big storm of the winter.

Friday morning FOX43 got a behind-the-scenes look from their headquarters in Harrisburg.

That’s where crews were monitoring 97 cameras positioned throughout Central Pennsylvania.

Officials with PennDOT say they use the cameras to not only manage the flow of traffic during a snow storm, but also to see what roads are in need of treatment.

In the meantime, they’re urging people, especially those who live near state roads, to plan ahead.

"One of the things that we're asking for is homeowners or businesses that may have vehicles or other equipment close to a state road, please move that back from the state road as far as you can because we are concerned about drifting snow especially on Saturday; we're going to be plowing back the shoulders back as far as we can,” said Fritzi Schreffler with PennDOT.
