Harrisburg, Pa. – Road conditions on interstate highways and major expressways in south central Pennsylvania are in good condition. Most pavement is clear of snow and dry. PennDOT crews are still working to clear the full width of the ramps in the interchanges.
Nearly all of the county PennDOT crews in south central Pennsylvania will be working around the clock. The shifts run from midnight to noon, and then from noon to midnight. There are about 10 roads in southern York County and 13 roads in southern Lancaster County closed due to drifting snow in rural areas. Work will continue overnight to open them, but some may still remain closed going into the daytime on Monday. Snow blowers are being used on some of these road closures.
Wet roads and freezing temperatures are a concern tonight and early tomorrow morning for producing possible icy spot conditions. Motorists should be alert to this possibility and drive cautiously. Also, due to the sheer volume of snow from this record-breaking storm, not all roads are fully cleared of snow. For example, where there is usually 2 lanes available to commuters on the way to work, there may now be only 1 ¾ lanes. Consequently, traffic may not flow as smoothly for commuters on Monday morning, and they need to be prepared for this possibility by either leaving earlier for work and allowing more time in their travel plans. PennDOT crews will be working overnight to address these locations, but some lane width limitation may still be present for morning commuters and other travelers.
