YORK COUNTY, Pa. -The man struck and killed by a tractor trailer on Interstate 83 in Manchester Township early Tuesday afternoon has been identified by the York County Coroner’s Office as 78 year old Sotirios Drivas.
The tragic accident happened in the northbound lane of I-83 near mile maker 25 at about 12:38 pm Tuesday. Drivas, who lives in Manchester Township, was struck and killed after he got out of his car to change a flat tire. The driver of the big rig did stop immediately after hitting Drivas and is cooperating with State Police.
Traffic was detoured around the scene for hours while a State Police reconstruction team investigated. The stretch of highway was reopened to traffic at around 6 pm.
The York County Coroner’s Office has scheduled an autopsy for 8 am Wednesday at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown to determine the exact cause of death.
