YORK, Pa. - It's already one of the biggest games on the local girls' hoops calendar: the York Catholic Fighting Irish vs. the Delone Catholic Squirettes.
But this time, these powerhouse teams will be looking to run up the score for a good cause.
"We're doing a Pledge It campaign for children's cancer," York Catholic coach Kevin Bankos said. "So both teams are raising money and it's per point or a flat donation, and both teams right now are doing really good at raising the money, so it's fun to watch."
It's a cause near and dear to Bankos. His son, Chandler, was a team manager for the girls' team and graduated from York Catholic last year. In September, he came home to visit family from Mount Saint Mary's University in Maryland.
"[He] caught a cold and we sent him to the infirmary at Mt. St. Mary's and long story short, about a week and a half after that, he was in an oncologist's office with Hodgkins' lymphoma," Kevin Bankos said.
Chandler Bankos is ending a round of chemotherapy next week, and everyone is hoping he is cancer-free soon. With him in mind, both teams are raising money for Four Diamonds at Penn State Hershey Children's Hospital.
"We've been putting it on social media trying to get the word out for everyone to donate and help the kids," Danielle Dessuin, a senior for the Fighting Irish, said.
"I think it's a really great idea to get the kind of rivalry going and just for a good cause," her teammate Emily Laslo added.
"We're going to try to score as many points as we can, but we don't want them to score as many, but you know what, if it's 100 to 99, that would be pretty cool too," Coach Bankos said.
