SNOW ARRIVAL: We spend most of the daylight hours of Monday cloudy and dry. After 2 P.M., the snow gradually arrives. It will first start to the west of the Susquehanna River in Franklin, Mifflin, Juniata, Perry, and Cumberland Counties. Then, the snow slowly spreads north and east across all our other counties.

SNOW DURATION: The snow continues Monday night and Tuesday. Expect hours of steady snow, then a break for a few hours, then steady snow for a few more hours during this period. The off and on snow ends Tuesday evening after rush hour.

SNOWFALL AMOUNT: Expect 3-7″ of snow. The higher end of that range goes to Harrisburg, Carlisle, Lebanon, and all of the counties that sit on the state line with Maryland like Franklin, Adam, York, and Lancaster. The lower end of that range goes to Mifflin, Juniata, Perry, and northern parts of Cumberland and Dauphin counties.

IMPACTS: While some spots will see some snow Monday evening during rush hour, the snow will affect the Tuesday morning commute the most, followed by the evening commute. Expect travel disruptions from this plowable snow.

STORM BACKGROUND: This snow comes from a fascinating setup–we don’t have a distinct storm bringing the snow. A weak piece of energy feeds off of a New England coastal storm. This piece of energy will just sit and spin over us Monday evening through Tuesday evening. Then, it lifts out of our area. Usually, we get our snow from an organized area of low pressure.

REST OF THE WEEK: On Wednesday, we’ll keep the clouds and have lake-effect flurries because of the breezes. Sunshine returns on Thursday, and it stays through Valentines’ Day. Look for highs in the upper 20s and low 30s those days.
