HARRISBURG, Pa. --

There are more than 1,000 exhibits at the Great American Outdoor Show at the Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg. The Hunt of a Lifetime booth offers free hunting and fishing trips for some young adults. They give the trips to people 21 and younger who have a life threatening illness.

Carson Rehm from Lancaster was able to have one of these trips.

"He had three open heart surgeries before 18 months, and then he got scoliosis," his father Scott Rehm said.

He said they heard about the foundation and then spoke with them at the Outdoor Show in 2014.

"Vicky said tell me about your son," Rehm said. "Vicky said he would probably qualify for this."

Vicky Lauer is the Eastern Pennsylvania Ambassador for Hunt of a Lifetime.

"Not every kids wants to go to Disney World," she said. "Some kids are born and bred on hunting."

She said they have sent people around the world with this program.

"We've sent kids to Africa. We've sent kids to New Zealand, Canada. We sent a young man to Chile," Lauer said. "People will donate their air miles to get the kids on planes. The outfitters donate the hunt or they give it to us at an extremely reduced cost."

When Carson had his opportunity, he decided he wanted to hunt a Red Stag in New Zealand. He went, got one, and has it now mounted in his living room.

"It was the best thing that could ever happen for me," Carson Rhem said.

It could be said, his father Scott felt the same way.

"Now it's really not as important for me because I see it through his eyes and having him experience it is my big trophy," Scott Rhem said.

The organization has sent about 1,000 young adults on the trips.
