YORK, Pa. – A driver safely escapes her SUV just before the vehicle bursts into flames. York City Fire fighters responded to the 200 block of Carlisle Avenue near the York Fairgrounds at about 5:48 pm.

The vehicle was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived on the scene.

The driver was on her way home from work when she noticed an odor.  When she saw smoke she pulled over and got out.

Fire officials say the fire was caused by a mechanical malfunction.  The 200 block of Carlisle Avenue was shutdown for awhile. There was a problem with water freezing on the roadway. A city public works crew was summoned to put down salt.
