SNOW, WINTRY MIX & RAIN
Light snow will accumulate anywhere from 1 to 3” this afternoon. Temperatures will warm in the upper levels, while surface temperatures remain at or below freezing. This will cause the snow to change to freezing rain during the evening. There will be a several hour period of freezing rain. Temperatures will have some difficulty rising west and northwest, especially in the valley areas, so freezing rain will linger until about 4am. The rest of the area will see the change earlier by midnight.
Temperatures continue to climb, eventually changing the precipitation to plain rain.
A coating to 3 inches of snow is possible before the transition. The evening commute is likely to be slowed by the weather conditions. A light glaze up to a tenth of an inch of ice is possible, but some areas west and northwest could see as much as a quarter of an inch. Traveling will get dicey as roads ice up. Heavy rain is anticipated through the day Tuesday once the precipitation changes over. Highs will climb to the upper 40s to near 50.
1 to 2 inches of rain is possible. Flooding is a minor concern and will need to be monitored.
