LANCASTER, Pa.–A convicted sex offender was sentenced to serve 5 to 10 years in state prison for failing to comply with Megan’s Law, according to the Lancaster District Attorney’s office.
Harry Dorwart Bleacher, 32, was convicted in 2003 of sex abuse of a child, and required to register his whereabouts and certain personal activities under Megan’s Law for the rest of his life.
Bleacher was charged last year, for the second time, with failure to comply. He gave police a false address and phone number, and kept Yahoo and Facebook accounts, which are forbidden under court order, prosecutors said.
Bleacher told police he was living at a Millersville address, but wasn’t. Sex offenders are required to register their whereabouts with police – at least annually – or notify police whenever they move.
On Wednesday in Lancaster County Court, Bleacher pleaded guilty to four felonies regarding those violations, and a fifth felony for asking a woman to lie to police for him about his activities.
In exchange for the pleas, Bleacher will serve 5 to 10 years in state prison, according to Assistant District Attorney Janie Swinehart.
Aside from non-compliance, Bleacher also skipped the verdict at a criminal trial in 2012 – regarding felony counts of failure to comply with Megan’s Law. The verdict was announced without him, and he was convicted.
A week later, a local bondsman took Bleacher into custody at a local McDonald’s restaurant.
