23-year-old Ukrainian National arrested after posing as Harrisburg high school student

HARRISBURG, PA. –  Harrisburg Police have confirmed they have arrested Artur Samarin, 23.  Samarin was charged with Theft, Identity Theft, and Tampering with Public Records.

Samarin was using the false identity of Asher Potts. With a false date of birth, according to a release, he obtained a social security card and additional US documents.

He enrolled in John Harris High School in the fall of 2012.  Samarin is a Ukranian National, who remained in the United States after his visa expired, under the assumed identity of Potts.

When he was arrested Samarin was in possession of Pennsylvania Driver’s License issued under the name of Asher Potts.

Harrisburg School District officials have confirmed the arrest of a student at the high school.

“While we do not know all of the details surrounding the arrest, we are treating this as a serious matter,” said Kirsten Keys, Public Relations Coordinator.  “At this time, the investigation is in the hands of the Harrisburg Bureau of Police.  The district will continue to cooperate fully with the police department as they move forward with their investigation.”

According to a Tweet sent by Patty Kim, Potts was enrolled as a Sophomore with a 4.16 GPA in May of 2014. She also wrote that he was in ROTC and a member of the National Honor Society.
