Local radio personality charged with child endangerment, aggravated assault

SWATARA TOWNSHIP, Pa.–A morning radio station host is facing child endangerment charges after her four-month old daughter sustained a fractured skull last year in Dauphin County, according to court documents.

Samantha Eary, 32, of Steelton, is charged with aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a child.  Eary, who is a local radio personality at HOT 93.5 known as DJ Sami, was arraigned Friday afternoon in Harrisburg.

The charges stem from an incident that occurred on Nov. 9, 2015.

Swatara Township Police responded to the Hershey Medical Center after receiving a report that Eary’s four month-old daughter was being treated at the hospital for a skull fracture, according to the criminal complaint. Eary told police she had no explanation as to how her daughter came to be injured, even though the baby was in her constant care. The baby was originally taken to Harrisburg Hospital and later transferred to the Hershey Medical Center.

Earlier in the day–Eary had taken her daughter to a routine doctors appointment, during which time the pediatric physician reported no abnormalities, court documents state. After the doctor’s visit, Eary returned home, took a nap and then placed the baby in a “creeper,” otherwise known as a baby walker. Around 6 p.m., Eary’s roommate picked the baby up when she noticed a large lump/swelling on the infant’s head, court documents state.

Eary mentioned something about the lump and asked her roommate if the lump could be from the baby receiving shots earlier in the day, according to the criminal complaint. The roommate’s mother, who is a nurse, inspected the lump and advised Eary to immediately take the baby to the hospital.

Police believe the baby’s injuries were consistent with blunt force trauma to the head. Eary was never able to offer police an explanation as to how the injury occurred, even though her daughter was not able to move herself around without the care of someone else, according to court documents.

Eary’s daughter is now in protective custody, police said.

The radio station confirms Eary was not on her radio show Friday morning. They declined to comment further. Her biography page has been disabled on the station’s website.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 24.
