Harrisburg, Pa. - Dauphin and Lebanon Counties could soon be running under one bus service. Dauphin County commissioners passing a resolution today for the two counties to start exploring ways to merge Capital Area Transit with Lebanon Transit. Commissioners estimate a merge could save Dauphin County $1.7 million over a five year period with Lebanon at $500,000. Talks have been going on since last spring to merge bus services with other south central Pennsylvania counties.

"t's logical for us to consider consolidation, whatever that looks like," said Jeff Haste, Dauphin County Commissioner. "Whether it be shared services or a true consolidation with Lebanon with the ultimate goal of joining in with Berks and Lancaster."

PennDot believes a region-wide merge with all local counties could save taxpayers $5 million per year.
