KANE AND AID

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Pa. Attorney General Kathleen Kane’s driver and confidant, Patrick Reese, was sentenced to 3 to 6 months of jail with no time off for good behavior,  fined $1,000 and ordered to serve 100 hours of community service for snooping through co-workers emails related to the investigation of a grand jury leak.

Montgomery County Judge William Carpenter handed down the sentence at 1:30 pm this afternoon.

Reese remains free on $5,000 bail pending an appeal of the sentence.

Reese, 48, a former police chief, was convicted in a two day bench trial in December of contempt for violating Judge Carpenter’s protective order barring the attorney general’s from meddling or intimidating witnesses in the grand jury investigation.
Kane was indicted last August on a perjury charge and other crimes related to alleged leaks of secret grand jury material from her office. She is alleged to have orchestrated the release of materials from an investigation into the finances of a Philadelphia civil rights leader to embarrass a rival.
