HARRISBURG, Pa. – Northeastern School District Superintendent Dr. Shawn Minnich faces suspension of his teaching certificate.

On February 18, the Pennsylvania Department of Education filed for immediate suspension of Dr. Minnich’s teaching certificate which impairs his eligibility to be employed by the school district.

The Educator Discipline Act requires that a hearing be held within 30 days of that filing. With about  a week before that deadline, the Department of Education received a request for a hearing today.  According to guidelines, the Department will be appointing a hearing officer who will be responsible for scheduling and conducting the hearing. No action can be taken against his certificate until the hearing has been completed.

Minnich, was arrested in December 2015 and charged with assault in a domestic disturbance involving his estranged wife.  According to the criminal complaint, he forced his way into her home and assaulted her male companion.

So far no response from the school district on Minnich’s possible suspension.

Minnich has been superintendent of Northeastern School District since July 1, 2013.
