Harrisburg, Pa. – State lawmakers revealed legislation to stop what they’re calling an “illegal alien invasion” in Pennsylvania. They’re pushing for laws that include requiring all commonwealth employers to use a web-based system called “E-Verify.” The system confirms if a person can legally work in the United States.

They also want to see an end to “sanctuary cities,” where officials protect illegal immigrants by not turning them over to federal officials. Philadelphia is on that list. Lawmakers say the bills would make Pennsylvanians safer.

“I understand many illegal aliens come to this great country to make a better life for themselves and their families,” said Philadelphia Republican Representative Martina White. “However, it should not come at the expense of our freedom as Americans. With every new illegal alien that comes into our state, we lose a bit more freedom. Freedom to feel safe in our workplace and businesses, and the freedom to travel without fear.”

The state representatives also say the laws would save taxpayers money and protect jobs.
