President orders federal aid to cover winter storm damage in area counties

Obama authorizes airstrikes in Iraq – August 7, 2014

WASHINGTON, DC – President Obama has ordered federal aid to cover damage and snow removal costs of the Commonwealth and local counties hit hard by a severe winter storm January 22 – 23. The President declared a major disaster exists due to that severe storm.

Federal funding will be available for the repair or replacement of facilities damaged during the storm in Adams, Bedford, Berks, Blair, Bucks, Chester, Cumberland, Dauphin, Fayette, Franklin, Fulton, Juniata, Lancaster, Lebanon, Lehigh, Montgomery, Northampton, Perry, Philadelphia, Schuylkill, Somerset, Westmoreland, and York counties.

SteeltonSnowRemovalIn addition, federal funding is available to the commonwealth and eligible local governments on a cost-sharing basis for snow assistance for a continuous 48-hour period during or proximate to the incident period in Adams, Bedford, Berks, Blair, Bucks, Chester, Cumberland, Dauphin, Fayette, Franklin, Fulton, Juniata, Lancaster, Lebanon, Lehigh, Montgomery, Northampton, Perry, Philadelphia, Schuylkill, Somerset, Westmoreland, and York Counties.

Federal funding is also available on a cost-sharing basis for hazard mitigation measures for all counties within the Commonwealth.

FEMA said additional designations may be made at a later date if requested by the commonwealth and warranted by the results of further damage assessments.
