MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - The Fager-Finkenbinder Funeral Home in Middletown, Dauphin County submitted a permit to renovate a building on their property into a crematory. Their permit was approved by Middletown's former zoning officer. Now, people in the town have filed an appeal saying they do not want a crematory in their neighborhood.

"We don't feel like it is appropriate for this thing to be in a residential district in any town. We are for cremation. We are for cremation. It just doesn't have to happen in a garage in a residential district," said David Grabuloff Jr.  from the Middletown Citizens Awareness Network.
Members of the new group Middletown Citizens Awareness Network say they are worried the crematory could impact their health or property value.

"We don't don't feel like we want to live next to a crematory. Who is going to want to buy our houses," said Grabuloff.

The DEP is still reviewing the application. In the meantime, a meeting will be held on March 31 at 6:45pm at the Middletown Borough Building.
