YORK COUNTY, Pa.- Firefighters find themselves battling two unrelated fires at about the same time Tuesday evening in North Codorus Township.

The first fire was reported at 5:35 pm in the 3000 block of Mackenzie Lane. A police officer and a firefighter, who lived nearby, responded and found heavy smoke coming from the home. They located the source of the fire with the homeowner by the stove in the kitchen. The off duty police officer and firefighter used several fire extinguishers from their vehicles to slow the flames until fire equipment arrived. Both are credited for acting quickly and preventing greater damage.  There were no injuries reported.
