YORK, Pa. - people in York took a break from their work for national Take a Walk in the Park Day. City Mayor Kim Bracey joined walkers at Penn Park to promote exercise and healthy living. Officials are encouraging people to take advantage of the city's parks during their lunch hour to help fight a range of health issues including high blood pressure and cholesterol.

"Walking is important for a lot of reasons, especially health reasons," York City Bureau of Health Director Barbara Kovacs said. "It can benefit people by reducing their stress but it's also fun to do and it's not just an exercise, it's something you do daily and doing it with friends and other people is the fun part of walking."

Mayor Kim Bracey will be holding these monthly walks in neighborhoods and parks throughout York city.
