YORK COUNTY, Pa. - Pennsylvania State Police and Southern Regional police are on the scene of a shooting. It happened just before 8 p.m. at the Shrewsbury Commons in southern York County.

PSP York barracks received a 911 call from an employee of the Walmart stating an individual with a weapon had just robbed the pharmacy.

A trooper was already in the area and responded immediately, entering the store and encountering the suspect.

The suspect was told to drop the weapon, and he raised his shotgun on the trooper.

The trooper was able to simultaneously push the muzzle of the shotgun away as both fired one shot.

The shot fired from the suspect missed and struck a wall, while the trooper's shot struck the man in the chest.

The trooper did not suffer any injuries in the encounter.

Troopers say the suspect was responsive at the scene and he was transported to York hospital. His condition is currently unknown.

Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Rob Hicks said, "It's a very scary situation for everybody involved. Our trooper, the people who were in there shopping, the employees. A very nerve wrecking situation. Thank God no one was hurt."

The Walmart will remained closed through Saturday morning.

The investigation is ongoing.
