DERRY TOWNSHIP, Pa. - A group of local students are taking part in a movement to fight the global water crisis. Hershey High School's Key Club organized their first Walk for Clean Water event on Sunday.
Participants walked walk 3.75 miles around Derry Township School District’s campus, symbolizing the distance that 663 million people must walk every day to reach water. Money raised from the event will go to the non-profit called the Thirst Project which is using donations to help the small south African country of Swaziland.
"With the Thirst Project, for example, once you donate 12-thousand dollars, they allow you to choose one village in Swaziland to actually build the well in," Key Club member Erica Wang said. "That's what made us think that they are a really unique organization and a really good cause. "
The organization has built or funded projects in 13 different countries. They are now actively working in seven which includes India, Uganda, and Colombia.
