HARRISBURG, Pa. - A worldwide celebration focused on raising awareness to keep our natural environment starts this week. Earth Day is observed on April 22, but festivities kicked off on Sunday in Harrisburg.

Pennsylvanians of diverse faith traditions gathered by the Susquehanna River for an interfaith blessing of the waters. Members of the Christian, Jewish, Muslim, and Baha'i faith communities came together with the same message of caring for out natural resources.

"Today is meant to be a display of unity among faiths," Interim Director of Lutheran Advocacy Ministry of Pennsylvania, Tracey Depasquale said, "not just for building community but also for our common call to be good stewards of creation."

Sunday's pre-Earth Day event also included a community meal and music.
