2016 economic summit

Derry Township, Pa. – Governor Tom Wolf and United States Senator Bob Casey met with business and economic officials in Dauphin County today to talk about how early childhood education can impact long-term health costs.

The officials met in Derry Township to discuss how early childhood poverty and stress can affect health costs. Members of the early learning investment commission say there should be more of an investment in quality early education as an economic development strategy. Governor Wolf agrees.

“Whether you’re looking at science, you’re looking at the economics, you’re looking at the politics of it, this just makes sense,” said Governor Tom Wolf. “Early childhood education is something that we ought to do a much better job in. It’s something we need to invest in.”

Governor Wolf has proposed a $60 million increase in high quality early childhood education and $11 million for home visiting programs for 2016-2017.
