Police Chase on Interstate 81

SWATARA TWP., Pa.– A juvenile is facing charges after driving a stolen car in a police chase that ended in a crash.

The 17-year-old juvenile is being charged with theft of a motor vehicle, receiving stolen property, fleeing or attempting to elude an officer, DUI, possession of a controlled substance, and several other traffic offenses.

On April 27 at about 2:15 p.m., a Swatara Township Police Officer watched a vehicle driving westbound on Derry St. in such a manner that led the officer to believe that the driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The officer followed the vehicle and attempted to stop the car, but the driver didn’t yield to the officer, and continued to drive.

The driver increased his speed, ran two red lights, and passed other westbound vehicles before eventually crashing his car and being taken into custody by the officer.

The juvenile was taken to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.
