HARRISBURG, Pa. – York County District Magistrate Jeffrey Joy pleads no contest to two counts of Official Oppression.  Joy, a former mayor of New Freedom Borough,  was charged last summer with indecent assault and official oppression for allegedly groping a 31 year old woman who had appeared before Joy in district court.

In the aftermath of the criminal complaint, Joy was ordered suspended without pay last August by the Pennsylvania Court of Judicial Discipline. He had been justice of district court 19-3-04 since 2011.

Joy appeared today before a visiting judge assigned to his case by the State Attorney General’s Office. As part of a plea deal, Joy agreed to resign as district justice and not to seek public office or position in law enforcement in the future.  He was also handed an unspecific term of probation.
