YORK TOWNSHIP, Pa.-- The American Red Cross helps people in need all across the country. On Sunday, dozens of people helped raise money for the organization's South Central Pennsylvania branch.

The "Lanes For Lives" event was held at Suburban Bowlerama on South Queen Street in York Township, York County. Bowlers from a number of teams hit the lanes, hoping for strikes and spares.

"We have every bowling alley filled up with people who care about their community who want to make a difference, who are coming out having fun on a rainy day and raising money for the Red Cross," says Matt Leininger, Chapter Executive of the South Central Pennsylvania branch of the American Red Cross.

The American Red Cross is primarily funded by donations. More than 100 bowlers raised money and took part on Sunday, trying to help the organization meet its needs.

Thelred Ziegler, a Red Cross board member says, "One of biggest things that the Red Cross does is we go to house fires. So we show up at house fires and we will help the people who are there. Help them immediately help the volunteers, the first responders, help everybody there."

This year's event was sponsored by Brewery Products Company, which added beer tasting and was able to get more people involved.

"We thought the best way that we could give back was by raising money so that they would have money to give back and buy the things that they need for the local area," said Wendy Keesee, with Brewery Products Company.

FOX43 was also happy to be a part of the "Lanes For Lives" event. Our Amy Lutz, Bill Toth, Chris Garrett, Jackie De Tore, Ali Bradley and Caitlin Sinnett took part.

More than $1,000 was raised for the cause.
