CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Pa.– A Republican candidate may end up on the Democratic ticket this fall after receiving well over the 500 write-in votes necessary to put him in contention.
Jon Ritchie received nearly 1,300 write-in votes in Cumberland County, putting the Republican in position to be on the Democratic ticket this fall in a race to replace state Sen. Pat Vance.
This comes after Ritchie came in second to state Rep. Mike Regan last week in the Republican primary.
It is not certain that he will be listed on the ballot because the Democrat write-ins in York County have yet to be counted, according to Pennlive.
The director of elections in Cumberland, Penny Brown, said that if Ritchie is still the highest voted candidate after York’s votes are counted, he will be listed throughout the district, which includes parts of Cumberland and York counties.
Ritchie is well known in Central Pennsylvania, as he was a former Cumberland Valley High School football star who later played at Stanford and in the NFL with the Oakland Raiders and Philadelphia Eagles.
