ADAMS COUNTY, Pa. – Two separate security threats lead to early dismissal at two Adams County high schools.
Students at Gettysburg Area High School, 1130 Old Harrisburg Road, were dismissed at 2:45 p.m. after a written threat that will taken place on Wednesday was discovered on the wall of a bathroom. The Adams County Sheriff’s Department K-9 unit, assisted by a Maryland K-9 unit were called to the scene to sweep the building.
The building was given the all clear. School districts says activities scheduled for this evening are on.
The investigation into who wrote the threat continues.
The second threat incident was at New Oxford Area High School at 130 Berlin Road, New Oxford. According to Eastern Adams Regional Police, a note written in pencil was discovered by a student at about 2:20 this afternoon in the boys bathroom that said that there would be a bomb explosion at 2:20 p.m. The student brought the note to the attention of School District Officials. The school dismissed students at the normal time, 2:30 p.m. All evening activities were canceled.
The Adams County Sheriff’s Department K-9 unit and a K-9 unit from Prince County Maryland that was training in the area, were called to search the building. Nothing was found and the scene was cleared at about 5 o’clock this evening. The search of the school was delayed due to the Sheriff’s K-9 unit responding to the threat at Gettysburg Area High School.
The building was declared all clear by 4:45 p.m.
Police say school district officials will review surveillance video of the entrance to the bathroom and take student handwriting samples as their investigation continues.
New Oxford Area High School will open at its regular time on Wednesday.
