HARRISBURG, Pa.– A Harrisburg man is facing a state prison sentence after a theft spree.
Michael Smith pleaded guilty to retail theft, theft by unlawful taking, possession of drug paraphernalia and public drunkenness. He was sentenced to between 6 and 24 months in a state prison.
On Feb. 1, Smith was intoxicated and high on synthetic marijuana when he entered a Unimart in Susquehanna Township. He stole $55 worth of headphones from the store before making his way to Front Street Diner, where he took cash out of a church donation jar.
Employees of the diner called the police, and Smith was arrested later a short distance away while still in possession of the items he had taken.
The state prison sentence was levied because of Smith’s long history of committing retail thefts.
Deputy District Attorney Anthony Corby said, “Michael Smith has been a nuisance to Dauphin County businesses. The District Attorney’s Office is proud to serve our local business community and will vigorously prosecute those who commit thefts in this county.”
