PHILADELPHIA, Pa.– The Philadelphia 76ers have become the first major sports team and the first NBA team to announce a corporate partner will be advertising on their jerseys for the 2017-18 season.
This comes after months of speculation that the NBA would begin experimenting with ads on jerseys, especially after the league had ads on the All-Star Game jerseys in February.
The NBA Board of Governors approved the sale of jersey sponsorships last month that would begin with the coming season, according to Philly.com.
Stubhub, a ticket resale company, has been a partner of the Sixers, and now will have a patch on the front left side of their game jerseys. The agreement is part of the three-year pilot program the NBA has instituted.
“This marks another groundbreaking first for the Philadelphia 76ers and Stubhub. Our brands are inextricably linked as we create lifelong memories for our fans in Philadelphia and around the world,” Sixers’ CEO Scott O’Neal said in a statement.
